Environmental Tech & HAZCOM Specialist for Gold/Mineral Exploration

How long have you been mining?
2 years of Exploration

Where are you currently mining?
Currently in Gold Exploration

What do you love most about your career?
The people, everyone looks out for each other from both a personal and a safety standpoint.

The sites I get to see when out in the field. We work in a beautiful area and seeing ground that others may not have seen for hundreds of years is definitely special when it happens.

If there was one thing you could change about the mining industry, what would it be?
Definitely the public image, I feel that there are people who are uninformed about mining not only from a resources standpoint, but from a community and economy standpoint as well. Many tend to look at the negatives or are uneducated in mining and have the “not in my backyard” mentality. But in reality, being self-sufficient should bring a sense of pride to the people, not fear of a changing landscape.

What advice would you give a miner just starting out?
Be a sponge. Learn as much as you can to develop into a great miner who is well-rounded in your skills, but also safe while performing all tasks. I am in this category for sure and although I have progressed a lot, I still have much to learn.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
Depending on the season, I enjoy golfing, mountain biking and fishing in the summer time, and playing ice hockey, skiing, and hunting in the fall/winter time.

What is one fun fact about you?
I have a one-year-old Sheepadoodle named Smokey Bear.
